About the area
Pitsidia is a traditional village in the far south-west of the Messara Valley, in the Heraklion region, close to the beaches of Komos and Matala. It is known for its landscape of mountain slopes and hills in bloom with flowers, shrubs, herbs and fruit trees, beautiful in every season, and it faces Mount Psiloritis, the highest mountain in Crete, at times covered in snow.
