Villa Domenico (built in 2000) is quietly situated on a hillside overlooking the bay of Plakias. Its distance from the fishing village of Plakias is under 2km. Plakias is a beautiful small resort directly on the Libyan sea and it is the place where nice beaches and many amenities can be found. There are a good selection of tavernas with fresh fish together with snack bars, cafes and small supermarkets. Plakias is situated 30 km south of Rethymno.
The villa is built in a plot of 2500 sqm with pretty gardens, flowers, palm trees, and olive trees. From this area the Monastery of Preveli, Frangokastello, and the archaeologic site of Phaistos can easily be visited.
At the Villa there is a 50sqm swimming pool and there is also a games room with table tennis and a billiards/pool table. There is a garage on the premises. All living areas and bedrooms have air conditioning (at a local charge).
The villa is divided into 2 floors, with a size of 200 sqm, suitable for up to 11 people. On the ground floor there is a living room with a fireplace, a seating corner, TV, and a well-equipped kitchen with dining table. There are also two bedrooms (one twin and one double), and a bathroom with a half bath with shower attachment and a toilet. An outdoor staircase leads up to the first floor, where there is a living/dining room with a kitchen, seating corner, open fireplace, and TV. There are three bedrooms, one with a double bed and two with twin beds, a bathroom with bath with shower attachment and a toilet, and a washing machine. From the villa it is a nice walk down into Plakias, with rather a steep walk back up! A car is considered to be essential in order to explore the whole area and the island.

The island's geography couldn't be simple either! The terrain is amazingly varied, which, though a surprise to those used to the Cycladic islands or the Ionian islands to the west, is a natural consequence of the size and position of the island. Where else in Greece can you see mountain ranges towering well over 2,450 metres, snow-capped in winter and carpeted in local flora in spring and early summer. Mountain plateaus cover the rest of the island, apart from when they are slashed by spectacular gorges, or gently peter out in the low plains reaching the sea. The beaches range from your archetypal sandy paradise, to idyllic little bays and rocky coves with family friendly rock pools, or picturesque fishing harbours with mirror-sharp clean waters and pebbles underfoot.
It is the diversity and size of the island that make the impulsive wish to return a natural reaction of the first time visitor, and, as the well seasoned visitor will tell you, make car rental and even boat hire (or boat trips for the non-mariners) a very reasonable means to make the most of your holiday.
