The villa is located at the former community of Alikampos in the province of Apokoronas. Alikampos is one of the oldest villages of the perfecture of Chania. The residents belonged in the noble Byzantine family of Konti, which enjoyed a lot of privileges from the emperors of Byzantium, which they maintained until the past years of the Venetian domination.
Alikampos was the center of activities in the revolutions against the Venetians, who destroyed the village in 1527 and they prohibited the residents to rebuilt it.
In the village you can see interesting old houses, Venetian ruins and the Byzantine temple of Koimisis of Virgin Mary with murals of 1315.
Today the village belongs to the municipality of Kryonerida of the prefecture of Chania. The village Alikampos is located at the foot of Lefka Ori (in an altitude of 310m.), 40 kilometers from Chania, in the provincial road of Chania to Sfakia and 28 kilometers from the city of Rethymno. It is just 8 kilometers from the sea and the coastal settlement of Georgioupoli and 3 kilometers from the village of Brysses. According to the last inventory, the residents are numbered roughly in three hundred.

We stayed for one week in May, 2016 at Villa Maria. The villa is situated high in the mountains within a very peaceful and quiet location, with excellent views over the surrounding countryside. The house is very well equipped with well stocked kitchen, plenty of storage space and air con in the bedrooms. The pool and gardens are the best feature, extremely beautiful and well kept.....with covered eating spaces and a grill for outside cooking. There is a washing machine which is useful. The TV only has one English news channel, but there is a DVD player so I would recommend taking some DVDs with you. There is a also a PlayStation 3 with a few games. A car is definitely required, we used Anna car rentals, we find their service to be excellent. It is around 40 minutes drive to Chania and Rethymnon...but there is a beach within a 10 minute drive and some excellent local tavernas in the village Vrysses, which is only 5 minutes away. We enjoyed the villa so much we have already booked to return next year. I would highly recommend if you are looking for good quality accommodation and a remote, private location which offers good peace and quiet.

Built in 1871 on a quiet picturesque street of the village and just 150 meters from the main square, the villa is an authentic Cretan traditional stone build villa, which consists of an 80sqm main building with stone arches and wooden ceiling authentic and an autonomous 45sqm traditional stone studio with private entrance.
Preserving the traditional elements of local architecture, the villa is an 85sqm new building, equipped with modern furnishings in which it can accommodate up to 6 people.
There is a two payment installments: 30% once a booking is confirmed, payoff 30 days prior arrival. The guest pays either by Credit Card or PayPal. In case of a cancelation, Cretico will refund the guest, according to the cancelation policy selected by the villa's owner.
