Kokkino Horio taverna and mini market are only 7 minutes walk from the villa. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has good food, and during the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the tavern, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio ("red village" in Greek) was the main village set for the film "Zorba the Greek", with Antony Quinn on the main role. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village "kafenion" you can find older locals, who were used as extras in the film, and who will happily show you photos of themselves from the shootings. Just 10 minutes walk from the villas is the famous glass blowing workshop and organic taverna. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products, including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls.

The Retreat Taverna on the outskirts of the village has also good food and panoramic views. The Bay View Villas are just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is perfect for children or for not strong swimmers. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops.

Also in Almyrida there are tourist information, boat trips, private boat hire, horse riding, private sightseeing flights, and guided walking and coach tours, a scuba diving office, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.

  • Villa stands on the edge of the hillside at the end of the traditional Cretan village of Kokkino Chorio, where the famous movie "Zorba the Greek" was filmed, on a quiet, enviable position, 40 meters only from a little square in the heart of the village. It was the main Cafenion (traditional coffee bar) of the village and without doubt its most captivating feature is the huge vine covered terrace on the seaward side with absolutely mesmerizing, panoramic view of the coastline below. There, in a bygone age, the old men of the village, sat looking out the Souda Bay, wondering when the next pirate ship might appear over the horizon!

    • Situated on the top of a small hill, at the edge of a gorge just outside the rural village of Exopoli and overlooking the resort village of Georgioupolis, our villas have been extremely cleverly, and very thoughtfully, designed to provide modern comfortable accommodation that is firmly influenced by Cretan tradition and style. The final result is a very individual design that fully reflects the Cretan character, the local culture and the environment, whilst ensuring a high level of modern comfort that is expected in today's holiday accommodation.
