We - my husband, 2 teenage children and myself - stayed in villa Athena for one week (July 2016). A hidden gem, in an ancient village, surrounded by olive groves. Behind a little gated courtyard, the villa is sprawling, quirky and airy; thoughtfully and sympathetically designed to comfortably accommodate far more than 4 people but we thoroughly enjoyed having it to ourselves. Each room has its own charming character -even a tuned grand piano in the sitting room! This lovely villa is a haven of tranquility. Softened by pink bougainvillea, vines and palms, there are courtyards and terraces on each floor with views across the hill to the sea, and a plunge pool. Costas and his wife, Athina, are charming, welcoming and ensured that our stay was as comfortable as possible. With easy access to major roads (15minutes to Rethymnon) by car and with some very nice tavernas in nearby villages, Villa Athena is a very nice base and we would happily stay there again.
